Pipes and Tubes – and a visit in Leipzig!

It has been a sound that was filling my imagination with the greatest of colours, painting a picture I really wanted to realise.

Many times I’ve had conversations with Johannes Lang about the idea of combining the church organ with electric guitar,

Then last summer it happened that I met for the first time Jan Weige, playing double bass at his inauguration service as a cantor in Wolfhagen, a town not far from Kassel, Germany. That’s when I started thinking: “Well, I just might ask him to make this duo happen!” ‘Cause I knew Johannes was always too busy and well, living in Leipzig.”
Lucky me, Jan was all excited about the idea and soon we did our first jam session. It was clear for both of us that we wanted to do some concerts together.

That’s how Pipes and Tubes was born!

The cool thing is, I went to Leipzig for a short visit and Johannes and me had one little jam session. We both loved it instantly, so effortless, like floating water. So Johannes soon after integrated our duo into an evening service (March 2nd, 6PM) at St.Thomas church in Leipzig, where he’s the main organist since 2022. I feel honoured to be invited and am looking forward quite a bit! I’m wondering if J.S. Bach is watching us from above..? If so, I’m sure he’s very proud of us!
